At the July 6th special called business meeting, the church unanimously approved the proposed effort to restore the First Baptist sanctuary. Originally built in 1955, the 800 seat sanctuary last received an extensive remodel in the 1970's. Since then, the interior of the room has remained aesthetically the same. This effort would repair the extensive plaster work and decorative moldings prior to a complete re-paint of the 40-foot high ceiling and walls. When complete, the sanctuary will have a much warmer feel with neutral colors on the walls and a darker red for the carpet.
Numerous other projects were approved at the same time such as a remodel of the baptistery and continued renovation of the education building.
The re-opening of the sanctuary took place on "New Year's" Sunday, August 24 to a congregation numbering almost 400, the new college room was filled with students, the remodeled children's suite debuted and the remodeled baptistry was used for baptisms in both the morning and evening worship services. The new facilities will be enjoyed for years to come while all the glory will be given to God. How He has blessed us already in this new church year!
