Restorative Justice

First Baptist Church has been placed in a unique physical location that has led many to feel the need to minister to the employees of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the inmates themselves. The three key elements to the ministry are "First Contact","Welcome Back", and the "Officer Ministry".

  • Welcome Back Volunteers from First Baptist and other area churches have the opportunity to speak with offenders that are brought to the Huntsville "Walls" unit to be released. Volunteers will speak to them the night before they are released offering them a word of encouragement and spiritual advice.
  • First Contact As families arrive in Huntsville awaiting the release of their loved ones, they usually wait many hours outside of the "Walls" unit. This is an opportunity to minister to those families by demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ.
  • Officer Ministry Our Texas Department of Criminal Justice officers and employees are the backbone of our community and often go unappreciated. By visiting the employees of TDCJ--our neighbors--we wish to show our appreciation and offer our assistance as a spiritual guide. Church volunteers go to the units to deliver water and speak words of encouragement. By doing so they are often blessed by this work as they try to bless others.
